Imagine a Breeze

In reference to Lawrence Weiner’s work, Maness develops the idea of an oxymoron, a contradiction: Creating the sense of a breeze coming in from a closed window.

Taking up the approach of a contrasting moment as in Weiner’s work “As far as the eye can see” (1988), where the artist presents the eponymous phrase on a wall and thereby literally blocks the way of the visitor’s view, Maness gives you the impression of something that can’t actually be true.
